Winter Comforts Case
A seasonal six pack for long, dark evenings – a great kickstart to a relaxed weekend.
Voila, Assyrtiko, Lyrarakis, Crete: A superb quality Assyrtiko from the island of Crete from old vines, grown at almost 600 meters. Sourced from a single vineyard, with bush, unirrigated vines of low yields, this crisp white is fruity as well as mineral, with moderate weight and a citrus finish.
Menade, Verdejo, Rueda, Spain: Certified organic, this Verdejo has an appealing nose of citrus and wild flowers, the palate is multi-layered with ripe tropical fruit, citrus, grapefruit as well as wild herbs. The ending is long and shows racy mineral notes.
Cantine Tollo, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo: Certified organic, this medium bodied white is perfect for these colder evenings. The wine offers a pleasing concentration of fruit – peach, melon, candied banana on the nose and on the palate you have some juicy melon and pineapple flavours, propped up by tangy acidity and a slight saline edge.
La Bicicleta, Rioja Joven, Spain: La Bicicleta is a modern style Rioja by one of our favourite producers, Germán Blanco of Quinta Milú. This majority Tempranillo blend is fermented in cement tanks and is completely unoaked. His wines are about the grapes and how to get the fruit character expressed to the full, as such this red fruit forward wine is fresh and bright with silky tannins.
Santa Duc, Famille Gras, Les Plans, Pays Vaucluse: From the Rhone region of France, this is a blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, from grapes planted in Côtes du Rhone area. This is an authentic, full-flavoured Southern Rhone wine, a touch rustic, but with real power and a certain touch of finesse
Chateau Turcaud, Bordeaux, France: A great example of an approachable Bordeaux, from the fantastic 2016 vintage. Lovely smoothness on the palate, with good fruit characters, soft tannins and an elegant finish.
