BRYCE – Blanc de Noir, Krasna Hora, Czech Republic

“I admit it, I’m obsessed with Rosé… it just can’t be beaten for versatility and drinkability. So I made an effort to steer clear for March, kind of ! This is a Blanc de Noir, meaning white from red, so it could be a rosé in another life!  It’s deliciously fresh and mineral with lots of forward drinking fruit, with a serious, elegant finish. I love that it’s from the Czech Republic too. Wines like these are difficult to find in Australia.”

LUKE – Pierre Cotton, Beaujolais, France

“I just love Beaujolais – it’s juicy, approachable and easy-going, but the top producers, like Cotton, are making fun, cutting edge wines, with a serious side too. Organic and biodynamic, and low-intervention in the winery, these are the wines I like to drink. I loved this wine when I first tried it, and in fact, I have a tattoo of the label on my arm! I’m easily inspired by artistry, whether on the bottle or in the bottle and in this case, it was both!”

LIAM – Gut Oggau, Atanasius Rot, Burgenland, Austria

“I love the philosophy behind the wines at Gut Oggau – they are obsessed about organic and biodynamic farming and have a total hands-off approach at the winery- but I admire their business acumen too. These brilliant and immediately identifiable labels were designed as a concept to explain the stories behind the wines and it works well for our customers. When we did an event with Gut Oggau a couple of years ago, they talked lots about the moon! They also refused to give us the details behind the exact blend of this wine, because they want the wine to speak for itself… we reckon it’s a Zweigelt/Blaufrankisch blend, but either way, it’s full of energy and totally delicious”

SAILEOG – Champagne, Laherte Frère et Fils, Brut NV

“I’m a huge fan of Champagne and before working at Green Man Wines, I mostly drank the Grande Marques but recently I’ve been indulging in Grower Champagne. We have such a brilliant range at GMW and I think that they represent everything we look for in a wine – passion, authenticity and a real sense of place. I love this wine with food – it has all the depth and richness needed to stand up to big flavours and there’s no denying it, a good Champagne just adds that lift to the day… a little like the famous tagline – ‘because I’m worth it!!'”

LAURA – Dinamico Branco, Filipa Pato, Bairrada, Portugal

“If pushed, I’d choose white wine over red most days – what I look for in a white is a feeling of body and texture, with more savoury tones, rather than overt fruit, so I love this wine. It tingles on the palate and has a lovely mineral core to it, giving a sense of completeness. I am old enough to remember when Portuguese table wines were rough and ready, strictly for poolside terraces in the sun, and it’s thrilling to see the evolution to really exciting and interesting wines, such as this. Filipa is making real headway on her family estate and I love all the wines in the range.”

DAVID –  Lousas, by Envinate, Ribeira Sacra, Spain

“If you’ve seen any images of Ribeira Sacra, you’ll know that wines from the region are true labours of love. The vineyards are steep terraces and it takes a real passion to produce quality wines from here – in fact, many of the wines today are from previously abandoned sites. Envinate are a troupe of friends, who came together to source grapes from these plots in the best sites across Spain, including Tenerife! I love the drinkability of wines like this – the altitude guarantees freshness and a vibrant edge, but the winemaking expertise in Lousas is evident in the silky tannins and length. I love it with a quickly thrown together paella or Chorizo dish, but ultimately, it’s a wine for enjoying, something we all need at the moment!”
