Gianfranco Soldera, Case Basse 2013 IGT Tuscany
Winemaker Gianfranco Soldera, passed away earlier this year at the age of 82. While he will be remembered as one of Italy’s most outspoken winemakers, his wines also attained high acclaim and bottles of Case Basse Brunello di Montalcino Riserva have become some of the most sought after in the secondary market by collectors all over the world. This 2013 is the first vintage after sabotage occurred at the vineyard where a disgruntled employee opened the taps and left around 62,000 litres of wine from 2007 – 2012 vintages to pour out. Said employee is now in jail!
“Powerfully heady nose of sottobosco and dead leaves. On the palate it’s as fresh as fresh veg – massive freshness after an initial impression of prunes. Extremely subtle and only medium weight”. Jancis Robinson, 18 points
