Castro Ventosa ‘El Castro de Valtuille’
“An honest expression of a young Mencía, the great indigenous grape from El Bierzo, El Castro de Valtuille Joven is a red wine crafted by the Castro Ventosa winery from grapes grown in estates located in the town of Valtuille de Abajo, in the northern Spanish region of Castilla y León.
Coming from more than 50-year-old vines planted in sandy-limestone soils under a continental climate with a mediterranean influence, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks and, subsequently, only a tiny part of the wine was aged in wood vats in order not to mask the great quality of the fruit. Following this minimal intervention policy, El Castro de Valtuille Mencía Joven 2015 was neither filtered nor clarified before its bottling. A wine to be enjoyed over the next two years, its first vintages were crafted by Raúl Pérez, undoubtedly one of the world’s great oenologists. Although he is no longer the winemaker, his exacting quality standards remain.” Enter Wine
