Claire took over her parent’s estate in 1994. Its located in an under the radar spot in Burgundy where Hautes Côte de Beaune meets Hautes Côtes de Nuits. A small estate of 22 hectares it includes some prestigious parcels in Echezeaux, Ladoix and Nuist St-George. In 1998 Claire began producing a new range of wines, each named after a flower from that specific vineyard and where vilification took place without the use of sulphur (but a little is added at bottling if needed). These wines very much reflect the wine making philosophy of Naudin – to work as natural and as sustainable as possible.
Orchis Mascula meaning Orchid. Made from vines which are at least 30 years old, grapes are vinified whole cluster and without sulphur. They are then aged in oak barrel of which a small percentage are new. A super aromatic wine, the warm vintage brought plumpness to the fruit but the structure is upheld with the characteristic freshness of the Hautes Cotes and some soft tannins. Delicious, very easy to drink wine.
