Château le Coteau Margaux 2016
Chateau Le Coteau is a little known family-owned Margaux estate owned by Eric Léglise and located in Arsac to the west of the appellation. Plantings are 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.
2016 is considered another great vintage in Bordeaux following hot on the heels of the superb 2015 – “It is a second coming of age of Bordeaux,” says Mathieu Chardonnier, head of the negociant house of CVBG which also owns a number of top Bordeaux wine estates and sells millions of cases of Bordeaux each year. “It takes confidence to do less to get more in your winemaking and to believe in what you do. But that’s what many of us are doing in Bordeaux now. We made great wines in Bordeaux in 2015 and 2016. They are some of the best ever.”
Margaux is an appellation well-know for producing fresh Cabernet Sauvignon that can retain its purity over time while its fine bone structure glides over the palate and that is what we have here. A wonderful, sensuous Margaux, with signature notes of cassis, earth and oak spice, medium bodied, delicate assertive tannins, soft mouthfeel and effortless length. Excellently made by winemaker and owner Eric Léglise. Drink now or put away for 5 -10 years.
