A very special collection of 6 wines, that give you an insight into what inspires the Green Man Gang, as we celebrate 6 years in Terenure.

BRYCE – Pittnauer Rosé, Burgenland, Austria 2019, 11.5%

“I always come back to this wine – it’s fun and fresh, yet interesting at the same time. I miss the Aussie climate and this wine takes me back to BBQs and grilled meats in the sunshine. A good rosé wine goes with anything as far as I’m concerned, at any time of year! I love the label too.”

LUKE – Le Pech Abusé, Magali Tissot & Ludovic Bonnelle, Buzet, France 2015, 13.5%

“This is a Bordeaux blend that undergoes long ageing in old oak barrels and in bottle before release. I really respect wine makers, who release their wines when they feel they are at their most expressive and when they consider them ready to drink. For me, the most important characteristic in a wine is its energy and this has it in abundance. It’s slightly reductive and savoury, with a vibrancy and energy that is really exciting… and, as it happens, it’s from the 2015 vintage, like Green Man Wines!”

LIAM – Trenzado, Suertes del Marqués, Valle de la Orotava, Tenerife, 2019, 12.5%

“This wine was a complete revelation to me, and I was first introduced to it by Claire herself, who met the wine maker, Jonatan Garcia Líma, on a trip to Tenerife with David in 2019. It’s not exaggerating to say that this wine totally revolutionised my wine drinking, as it was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. Made with the local Listan Blanco (a.k.a. Palomino, a Sherry grape), with Luis Seabra as consultant wine maker, this wine captures the essence of Tenerife – it has saline notes, reminding me of sea spray, and a minerality that’s reminiscent of the volcanic soils there. 2019 is, in my opinion, the best vintage yet.”

SAILEOG – Comando G, Rozas 1er, Vino de Paraje, Sierra de Gredos, Spain, 13.5%

“Daniel Landí is making some of Spain’s most exciting wines from the Garnacha grape, grown in high altitude vineyards, and follows a philosophy of low intervention, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The Comando G project is innovative and dynamic and mirrors a Burgundian-like philosophy of terroir-driven wines, as well as taking inspiration from Grenache greats like Chateau Rayas. This Rozas 1er is based on the Premier Cru classification of Burgundy and is equally pure and elegant.”

LAURA – Patchwork Chardonnay, Bénédicte & Stéphane Tissot, Arbois, France, 2018, 14%

“White Burgundy is my great wine passion and some of my most precious moments and memories have been made over a shared bottle of brilliant Burgundy. This Chardonnay from the Jura is vibrant, mineral and pure, with a lovely energy, and it is a wine that can recreate those moments, at a price I can afford. Tissot wines appeal to me, as they have a mineral edge and lovely freshness, thanks to the Alpine altitude of the vineyards. I love Jura wines – they have an honesty and energy that’s hard to replicate”

DAVID – Krasna Hora, Pinot Noir Reserve, Czech Republic, 2018, 12.5%

“I was lucky enough to visit Krasna Hora winery in The Moravia wine region of the Czech Republic in October 2018 and was very impressed by the quality of their wines. I’m a lover of Pinot Noir, a tricky variety which can be an expensive hobby and either a heartbreaker  or something truly spectacular!  With prices in Burgundy only going North I’ve been looking at Germany, Austria and elsewhere  to find something that offers varietal character at a reasonable price.

This Pinot Noir is from vineyards situated on the 49th parallel, at the very limit of where grapes can be grown in Central Europe, in the south-eastern corner of the Czech Republic. There’s cherry and raspberry fruits on the nose, along with violets and herbs. The palate combines intense fruitiness with balanced and silky tannins and a refreshing, mouth-watering finish. A lovely little wine that is grown organically using Biodynamic principles and using very little sulphur. Fresh,  clean, juicy and full of energy!
