Our Story so far…
Green Man Wines is a shop and winebar that showcases a range of artisan wines from quality-driven producers. Many of these producers happen to work organically or biodynamically and in a low intervention way in the pursuit of wines that have character, balance and digestibility.
We love wine – not any old wine, mind, but interesting, authentic stuff with a story to tell about where it comes from, the kinds of people, land, culture and weather conditions that shape it.
We are David Gallagher and Claire O’Boyle Gallagher, a husband and wife team who have talked and dreamed about opening a place like this since we first met. We have gone on a journey since starting in the wine business in 1999. We have travelled, tasted, worked in every facet of the trade and continue to learn as much as we can about wine, food and hospitality. David is known to many from his days as manager of Berry Brothers and Rudd and more recently of Fallon & Byrne’s wine cellar. Claire is a member of the award-winning Le Caveau team which imports some of Ireland’s most exciting wines and also was a regular lecturer for the Wine Board of Ireland.
Situated in Dublin 6, where Terenure, Rathgar and Harold’s Cross meet, we offer a diverse range of authentic, interesting wines across all price points from everyday, good value wine under €12, right up to fine and very rare bottles.
Two words sum up the values that underpin everything we do: integrity and respect. We believe in giving our customers access to diverse, authentic wines and food and in doing so we all support artisan producers who work in a sustainable way. For us, this produce not only tastes better and is better for our health (and that of the planet) than mass-produced, highly processed products, but is also nourishment for the soul, giving us a chance to slow down and share conversation, food and wine with our families and friends.
We want to create a space where people can meet friends in an informal setting to taste and share great quality, honest and authentic food and wine and have the opportunity to experience the diversity of regional gastronomic cultures through dedicated events and classes.
